IDEAS™
A free 10-week career accelerator that equips community college students from underrepresented backgrounds with real-world exposure to artificial intelligence, mentorship from industry leaders, and the skills to pursue pathways in tech. Through a tax-deductible donation or volunteership, companies align their missions towards stewarding the next generation of technology leaders.
InCLUSION in AI
AI LA hosts inclusion-centered gatherings to help ensure the future of AI is built by—and for— a broad, representative community. From women’s vibecoding sessions to LGBTQ+ happy hours and affinity meetups, these events create welcoming spaces for connection, creativity, and collaboration across Los Angeles, expanding who feels ownership in shaping AI.
CIVIC RESPONSIBility
AI LA convenes technologists, policymakers, and community leaders to explore how AI intersects with public life. From forums on California AI legislation to conversations addressing LA homelessness, climate resilience and AI alignment, we create space for informed dialogue and practical action. Our goal is to ensure innovation advances in step with community well-being and democratic values.

Getting to be part of the AI LA community was such a rewarding experience. This organization is so full of opportunity and resources, which is reflected in the IDEAS program experience. Through the program, I not only gained exposure to machine learning, but I also connected with like-minded students, and gained meaningful insight into tech careers from industry professionals. IDEAS advanced my career preparation far beyond exposure to machine learning. IDEAS helped refine my teamwork and communication skills, built my confidence as a student going into technology, and reinforced the importance of trying out new things.
The best part of the AI LA community was being able to communicate with other industry leaders and peers that were just as equally interested in the technologies I was delving into. Participation in AI LA IDEAS has helped in my professional career by giving me the underlying mathematical skills to attain research roles.
I participated in IDEAS cohort 5, where I not only learned how to apply ML in a real project but I was also exposed to the professional environment within the field of CS in ways that aren’t taught in a classroom. I particularly valued learning about the diverse views of other community college students and industry mentors whose advice have helped shape my career direction.
